PCB Choose ICC’s Elite Panel Umpires for Pakistan Super League
As Pakistan Super League is now just few hours away, PCB has finalizes the names of Officials for the Inaugural Pakistan Super League T20. 2 Pakistani and 3 Foreign Umpire to supervise the Pakistan Super league. This has given a good message to cricket world that PCB hopes nothing other than best for and from PSL.
Pakistani Umpire and ICC’s Elite panel member Aleem Dar and Asad Rauf will be supervising the PSL Matches while 3 foreign umpires including Former ICC match referee Mike Procter and former elite panel umpires Russell Tiffin and Rudi Koertzen are selected to supervise PSL matches. It is not yet cleared that how many International players will take part in PSL starting from Feb 3 but it is seen as a good initiatve by PCB to have International team of match officials who were ICC’s former Elite Panel members.
The match referee Mike Procter was quoted saying that he has participated in several matches played in Pakistan is past. Unfortunately currently no international cricket is being played in Pakistan since last 6 years. He said I would play my part to revive International Cricket back in Pakistan. Mike Procter last visit Pakistan in June 2008 to supervise Asia Cup matches.
Russel Tiffin, former umpire belong to Zimbabwe and former member of ICC Elite Umpire panel has also visited Pakistan several times in Past. His last visit to Pakistan was Bangladesh’s tour of Pakistan in 2003.
The inclusion of these 3 foreign umpires in Pakistan Super League will obviously build trust of people in the Pakistan’s First ever Twenty20 Cricket League. As IPL has hit by match fixing scandals, this is a good move by Pakistan Cricket Board to not to include all Pakistani Umpires in Pakistan Super League. The move will maintain transparency and keep tournament away from match fixing scandals.
