Quetta Gladiators beat the Peshawar Zalmi with 3 wickets to spare in the second thriller of the day, another match going to the last over.

Peshawar Zalmi vs. Quetta Gladiators

After a cautious start by the Peshawar Zalmi openers who looked to see off the opening overs without losing any wicket, a breakthrough did come as Tamim Iqbal fell on the bowling of Mohammad Nawaz. There was a further lift for Nawaz when a couple of deliveries later he got the prized wicket of Hafeez too. Peshawar thus landed in some trouble. Kamran Akmal was expected to be better off against the spinners but he too fell, Zulfiqar Babar with the wicket. Malan took time to settle and came to fire when he hit a huge six to Umar Gul but this ended instantly as he fell on the very next delivery. Shahid Afridi came to bat in the cheers of the crowd but there was soon silence all over, Afridi departing to Umar Gul on his second delivery, leaving Peshawar’s supporters worried. It was Darren Sammy to Zalmi’s rescue, helping his side score 59 of the last 5 overs with some delightful hitting at the end of the innings. With Sammy’s tremendous hitting, Zalmi were able to climb to 135 runs.

Ahmed Shehzad and Wright got Gladiators off to a great start yet again. Shehzad took Tait on but the last laugh went to Tait as Shehzad edged one to the keeper. The wicket put some pressure on the Gladiators and it was capitalized on by the captain Afridi as he got the important wicket of Wright in the very next over with the score 35/2. Pietersen and Sarfaraz then took a good stand taking the score to 73, which was broken by Afridi to keep Zalmi in the match. Wahab gave Zalmi another wicket soon dismissing Mohammad Nawaz. Gladiators looked easing to victory through Pietersen but Mohammad Asghar got an important breakthrough, getting the wicket of Akbar to make things interesting. Pietersen kept the scoreboard ticking, but to the rescue of the Zalmi it was Wahab who struck in the 17th over, Nabi the batsman. The match that was in favor of the Gladiators tilted towards the Zalmi when Afridi caught Pietersen in the 18th over on Junaid’s bowling to set up a very tense finish. Tait bowled a splendid second last over but it all went to vain as he got hammered for a six off the last ball by Anwar Ali. With just 7 needed of the last over, Gladiators won the thriller on the second last ball of the over, Anwar Ali with the winning runs.

The most Colorful Innings award went to Sammy while Mohammad Nawaz got the Man of the Match cash award for another splendid performance with the ball.
