Lahore Qalandars Win Against Islamabad United

The fourth match of PSL 2017 was played between Islamabad United and Lahore Qalandars at Dubai International Cricket Stadium . Lahore Qalandars won the toss and captain McCullum decided to field first. After losing their first match, Lahore Qalandars were very enthusiastic to win against Islamabad United and to come at better position PSL Points Table. On the other hand, Islamabad United has remained as top favorite team after winning PSL 2016 trophy. However, suspension of Sharjeel Khan due to spot-fixing is no doubt a big loss for Islamabad United.

Players from Lahore Qalandars who participated in 4th match of PSL 2017 were Brendon McCullum, Bilawal Bhatti, Cameron Delport, Aamer Yamin, Sohail Tanvir, Azhar Ali, Grant Elliott, Ghulam Mudassar, Chris Green, Mohammad Irfan, Mohammad Rizwan, Sunil Narine, Jason Roy, Saif Badar, Umar Akmal, Fakhar Zaman, James Franklin, Usman Qadir, Zafar Gohar, and Yasir Shah.

Whereas, the players from Islamabad United were Misbah-ul-Haq, Shane Watson, Haddin, Sam Billings, Mohammad Irfan, Mohammad Sami, Imran Khalid, Amad Butt, Steven Finn, Samuel Badree, Saeed Ajmal, Asif Ali, Rumman Raees, Brad Sharjeel Khan, , Khalid Latif, and Hussain Talat. Dwayne Smith, Shadab Khan, Ben Duckett, and Zohaib Khan played as supplementary players.

In the first innings, Sam Billings and Dwayne Smith came first to bat from United team. In the start openers played quite well and confidently and became successful in crossing a score of 50 runs. However, later on Grant Elliot from Lahore Qalandars, performed brilliantly with the ball and dismissed both openers within an over. After these openers, Misbah ul Haq and Brad Haddin came to the pitch to balance the score. They were playing well but in 16th over, Grant Elliot became successful in getting two more wickets of Brad Haddin and Shane Watson and gave Islamabad United a big shock.

However, captain Misbah ul Haq was still there on the pitch with the well-maintained overall score of 115 runs. After that Mohammad Sami’s wicket was taken by Sohail Tanveer and Shahdab Khan was run out. Asif Ali was smashed on the ball of Sunil Narine. However, till the last over, captain Misbah ul Haq remained not out and helped his team a lot to make good scores of 158.

From Lahore Qalandars team, performance of Elliot was outstanding who took four wickets for just 23 runs. Sohail Khan and Sunil Naraine both took one wicket each.

The start of Lahore Qalandars batting was amazing. Lahore Qalandars batsman took an incredible start by making 18 scores in just one over with three fours and one six. However, they also lost their two wickets of McCullum and Fakhar Zaman early. Umar Akmal and Jason Roy made a good partnership and became successful in making score of 105 runs in just 12 overs, all because of Akmal and Jason strong batting.

Umar Akmal wicket was taken by Shane Watson and Grant Elliot got cracked by Saeed Ajmal after scoring just 3 runs. However, Jason remained not out and crossed his half century as well. A great shot by Sunil Naraine at the end caused Lahore Qalandars to win the match by six wickets.

It was very easy going match for Lahore Qalandars and they easily achieved the target all because of Jason Roy and Umar Akmal who contributed well to achieve high scores, whereas, Grant Elliot contributed to win this match by taking consecutive wickets.

This was the first defeat for Islamabad United in the HBL PSL 2017.
