Match 10 result: Karachi Kings defeated Islamabad United to bag First Win in PSL 2017

The 10th match of PSL 2017 was played between Islamabad United and Karachi Kings at Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Sharjah. The match started late because of heavy rain in Dubai. It was the first match of PSL second edition that was played between Islamabad United and Karachi Kings team. Previously Karachi Kings has lost their all matches in PSL 2017 against Peshawar Zalmi, Quetta Gladiators and Lahore Qalandars. They now hold the lowest position in PSL 2017 ranking chart and are expected to get eliminated from the tournament soon as they have lowest points among all other teams. On the other hand, Islamabad United, champions of PSL first edition secures third position in overall ranking and they are still a stronger team of PSL 2. Karachi Kings won the toss and Captain Kumar Sangakkara elected to field first.

Players from Karachi Kings who participated in PSL 10th match were Kumar Sangakkara, Shoaib Malik, Imad Wasim, Mohammad Amir, Safiullah Bangash, Shazaib Hasan, Chris Gayle, Babar Azam, Ravi Bopara, Kieron Pollard, Ryan McLaren, Sohail Khan, Usman Khan, Hasan Mohsin, Mahela Jayawardene, Rahat Ali, Usama Mir, Amad Alam, Khurram Manzoor and Kahif Bhatti.

Whereas, the players from Islamabad United were Misbah-ul-Haq, Shane Watson, Sam Billings, Hussain Talat, Steven Finn, Mohammad Irfan, Samuel Badree, Mohammad Sami, Brad Haddin, Amad Butt, Saeed Ajmal, Dwayne Smith, Ben Duckkett, Shadab Khan, Rumman Raees, Syed Muzammil Shah , Zohaib Khan, Imran Khalid, and Asif Ali.

At First, match was started late because of the rain in Dubai. Later on, the match was shortened to just 13 overs because of poor weather conditions. In the first innings, Dwayne Smith and Sam Billings came to bat first to face bowling of Karachi Kings. At the very start of the first over, Sam Billings was sent back to the pavilion by Imad Wasim and he could not score any single run. Dwayne Smith, however, made the highest score of 29

Dwayne Smith was dismissed by by Usama Mir at 8th over. After Smith, second highest scorer from Islamabad United was Shane Watson. He scored 26 runs and was run out. Captain Misbah ul Haq made 16 runs and remaining all other players could only score one, five or six runs. As the overs were limited, Islamabad United could only give the target of 90 overs to Karachi Kings with the loss of 8 wickets. It was worst performance for Islamabad United and they managed to make only 90 runs.

To chase the target of 91 runs , Chris Gayle and Babar Azam came to bat first from Kings. Gayle could score only two runs when he lost his wicket in the start of the first over.

However, the other opener Babar Azam scored highest runs of 47 with five boundaries and two sixes and remained not out till the end of the match.

Captain Kumar Sangakkara and Shoaib Malik scored two and six runs respectively. Imad Wasim scored eigth runs and remained not out. Karachi Kings could only play 9.4 overs and made 75 runs with the loss of four wickets, when match was terminated because of poor weather situation. According to Duckworth-Lewis technique, Karachi Kings was declared winner of the match. Babar Azam conquered the man of the match title as he has performed marvelously and made his team won the match for the first time in PSL second edition.
