Karachi Kings beats Lahore Qalandars in a one sided match
The second match of the inaugural Pakistan Super League T20 saw the Karachi Kings locking horns with the Lahore Qalandars of Pakistan Super League. The match expected to be a thriller rather turned kit to be a one sided affair curtosy Muhammad Amir’s hat-trick, and with Lendl Simmons and Shakibal Hasan’s brilliant show with the bat. The second match of PSL T20 was played in Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
Earlier, Karachi Kings won the toss and decided to bowl first. Being sent in to bat first, the Lahore batsmen struggled to get going against the spinners. Lahore had the worst start to their game as Chris Gayle was dismissed in the first over to Shoaib Malik, a skier caught by the fielder. The rest of the match witnessed a low run rate and wickets falling at regular intervals. No noticeable partnership was seen, Muhammad Rizwan was the top scorer with 37 runs followed by Sohaib Maqsood’s 22. The highlight of the first innings was Muhammad Amir’s hat-trick, the first of the inaugural PSL. The left-arm pacer dismissed Bravo, Zohaib khan and Cooper to help his side restrict Lahore to 125, he finished with 3 for 27 in his 4 overs. The other four wickets went to Shoaib Malik, Shakib-ul Hasan, Sohail Tanvir and Imad Wasim.
Karachi Kings did not start the match any better, losing 2 wickets for just 4 runs. Further damage could have been inflicted but Dwayne Bravo dropped Lendl Simmons which turned out to be the match decider. Karachi never looked back after this, Lendl along with Shakib-Ul-Hassan putting up a dominant show, giving the spectators a true view of T20 magic. Both smashed the Lahore bowlers around the park, dictating the play and getting a firm grip on the match. The 109 run partnership helped the Karachi kings ease to a victory with 7 wickets in hand and 4 overs yet to be bowled. Shoaib Malik hit a six to end the match in style. Shakib got the Man of the match award for a wonderful overall performance while Lendll Simmons won the Maximum boundary hitter award.
Azhar Ali admitted that Karachi deserved to win the match. He said that there are things to learn and with a long tournament remaining, his team will bounce back. Shoaib Malik was pleased with his team’s performance, especially the spinners. The next match will be played between Javed Afridi’s Peshawar Zalmi and Islamabad United.
